If your commercial vehicle has a GVWR or gross combination weight of more than 10,000 pounds in interstate commerce, you'll generally need a USDOT Number.
2. Oregon Motor Carrier Account
Most carriers must establish an Oregon Motor Carrier Account if they:
- Operate trucks over 26,000 pounds
- Haul property for hire in Oregon
- Exceed Oregon's temporary pass limits
3. Weight-Mile Tax Enrollment
Oregon is unique because it uses a Weight-Mile Tax instead of a traditional heavy vehicle registration fee for many commercial trucks.
If your truck operates over 26,000 pounds, you'll typically need to:
- Enroll in Oregon's Weight-Mile Tax Program
- File mileage reports
- Pay the required tax
4. Temporary Weight-Mile Pass
If you're entering Oregon occasionally and don't have an Oregon Motor Carrier Account, you can purchase a Temporary Weight-Mile Tax Pass before entering the state.
5. IRP (International Registration Plan)
If you operate in multiple states with qualifying commercial vehicles, you'll likely need IRP apportioned registration.
6. IFTA License
If your truck travels between states and meets fuel-tax requirements, you'll generally need an IFTA License to report fuel use across jurisdictions.
7. Oversize or Overweight Permit
If your vehicle or load exceeds Oregon's legal size or weight limits, you'll need an Oversize/Overweight Permit before moving.

- Over legal height

- Over legal weight
8. Registration Trip Permit
If your truck isn't properly registered to operate in Oregon, you may need a Registration Trip Permit before entering the state.
9. Unified Carrier Registration (UCR)
Interstate carriers operating commercial vehicles over 10,000 pounds generally must maintain an active UCR registration each year.
10. Additional Permits (When Applicable)

- Hazardous Materials (HazMat) registration and endorsements
- Special commodity permits
- Escort vehicle permits for certain oversized loads
