You need an Oregon 10-Day Trip Permit when you want to temporarily operate a commercial vehicle in Oregon without full Oregon registration or IRP credentials.
Oregon 10-Day Trip Permit

You NEED an Oregon 10-Day Trip Permit if:

  • Your truck is not registered under IRP (International Registration Plan)

  • You are operating in Oregon temporarily (pickup, delivery, or through-traffic)

  • Your vehicle is commercial and:

    • Has a GVW over 26,000 lbs, or

    • Has 3 or more axles, regardless of weight

  • You are an out-of-state carrier making limited trips into Oregon

The permit allows legal operation in Oregon for 10 consecutive days.

You do NOT need a 10-Day Trip Permit if:

  • Your vehicle is properly registered under IRP and Oregon is listed

  • You already have full Oregon registration

  • Your vehicle qualifies as non-commercial or exempt under Oregon law

Note: Even with a trip permit, Oregon’s Weight-Mile Tax  still apply, if over GVW 26000 lbs,  unless exempt.

 Important Things to Know

  • The permit is vehicle-specific

  • Must be purchased before entering Oregon

  • Must be carried in the truck (printed or electronic)

  • Does not replace fuel tax or weight-mile tax requirements

 Tip for Carriers

If you run Oregon frequently, full IRP registration and Oregon Weight-Mile Tax enrollment is usually more cost-effective than buying repeated trip permits.
